Ministries

Welcome! Liturgical ministry is an excellent opportunity to fulfill our Baptismal call of service to one another. Our liturgies at St. Francis de Sales utilize the talents and gifts that God has given this parish community to the fullest extent. Whatever your participation, parishioner contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations. Please prayerfully consider joining one of these ministries. Please email the office at parishoffice@sfdsmgtn.com if you are interested in serving.

Other ministries are also an important part of helping the parish function and being mindful of our Baptism call of service.

Parishioners who assist with the distribution of the Holy Eucharist (Body and Blood of Christ) at the altar or to the sick (hospitalized or homebound). Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must be 18 years of age, have received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church and, if married, must be recognized by the Church. Training is ongoing.

Readers proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy and, when there is no Deacon present, the Universal Prayer. A reader must have a passion for Scripture, an ability to interpret and understand Scripture, and sufficient public speaking skills to proclaim the Word to the assembly. Readers are provided with a Workbook to assist with proclamation and pronunciation. Sufficient personal time is required to study and reflect on the Word in order to properly prepare for Mass.

To participate in this ministry, youth must be in the fourth grade or above and received their First Holy Communion. They should have a love of God and willingness to assist the parish community in worship. Parental support is also necessary to ensure punctuality.

Adult parishioners who serve as Ushers and Greeters are the first ministers one meets when they arrive at our parish for any celebration. Their warm, friendly smile and welcoming greeting sets the tone for the worship experience. A pleasant, outgoing personality is most important! Ministers also assist in offertory, ensure orderly flow at communion time and provide additional assistance as needed.

You can help make the celebration of Mass a beautiful reflection of our parish family’s commitment to Christ. The vibrant music ministry at St. Francis de Sales includes instrumentalists, bell ringers (children, teenagers, and adults), choir members, and cantors. If you are interested in joining, please contact Julia Pinn (juliamusicministry.sfds@gmail.com).

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as a combination of sacred music and words, it forms a necessary or integral part of solemn liturgy.” The composition and singing of inspired psalms, often accompanied by musical instruments, were already closely linked to the liturgical celebrations of the Old Covenant. The Church continues and develops this tradition: “Address . . . one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart.” “He who sings prays twice.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1156)
