Monday, 14Sept2026 – Rest day in Navarrete
“He rested on the seventh day after all the [walking] he had undertaken” (a loose adaptation of Genesis 2:2). It was a much needed day to give my body time to heal and recover from the exertions of the last week. I slept a lot, walked slowly around Navarrete, ate nutritious meals, and spent much time reflecting on the experiences, insights, and gifts of the first six days on the Camino Ignaciano. My hostel is next door to the beautiful Iglesia Santa Maria de la Asunción (Our Lady of the Assumption) and I spent much time inside in prayer and contemplation. Mass was at 8pm with a Holy Hour before, including Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. The theme today was a continuation and deepening of yesterday’s focus on the reality of sin in the world. The focus was on my own personal role in this and the habits and ways of sin in my own life. Since today (Sept 14) is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, it was fitting that the final time of prayer had me imagining myself at the foot of the cross and speaking with Jesus about His sacrifice for me and the whole world, asking what it is that I should do for Christ.
