Saturday, 12Sept2026-Day 5 – San Vicente de Arana-Genevilla-LaGuardia (44.6K)
I wouldn’t recommend it, but sometimes one needs to do what one needs to do. Faced with no place to stay, I decided to push through Genevilla (the typical end of the fifth stage and walk all the way to LaGuardia (the end of stage 6). I had plenty of time along the way for prayer, reflection, and marveling at the beautiful scenery. In the small town of Orbiso I stopped for a coffee and croissant and it was there that the person serving customers engaged me in conversation. She said she had been on both the Camino de Santiago (the famous one) and the Camino Ignaciano. She said that the Santiago was crazy with so many people and large groups while the Ignaciano was more tranquil and suitable for reflection. I guess it all depends what one is looking for. I’m finding what I was seeking.Today’s reflection can be summed up in the following saying from St. Ignatius, we should desire to do that which brings greater honor and glory to God, praying that we be free of desiring anything other than what is most aligned with God’s will. I had lots to ponder during my long walk!
